SCOPE OF WORKS; Construction of a 7meter diameter segmental shaft from base of a high voltage electricity pylon into former rail tunnel.
The project was the refurbishment and upgrade of the main H.V. interconnector cable between the Northwest and North East through the Pennines.Part of the project required a new 7 meter diameter shaft to be sunk directly onto the tunnel. Greene Civil Engineering we called upon to undertake this aspect of the scheme which incorporated bulk excavation and earthworks, temporary support, temporary works design, reinforced concrete works, and construction of a segmental shaft in rock.

Other works to facilitate the shaft included major void grouting, rock bolting and shot-crete work.GCE has the relevant in-house expertise to deliver specialist projects such as this safely and to clients expectations. Additionally GCE are able to undertake the more traditional roles of a civil engineering contractor making it a company that is multi-skilled and competent.

The project was delivered to the complete satisfaction of the client and proved that the ability of GCE are of the highest standards.
