SCOPE OF WORKS; Construction of a 5m diameter ciasson shaft for principal site pumping chamber.
The project was for the new BBC northern headquarters and is one of only 4 such dedicated media centres in the world. The site is on the side of the Manchester Ship Canal directly opposite to the Lowry Centre.
Greene Civil Engineering were engaged to construct a caisson shaft using a jacking process, a system that the company is well familiar with. To facilitate the works GCE provided temporary works design, rock anchors, reinforced concrete works and underwater reinforced concrete works. The project was delivered on time and to budget and provided the primary pumping chamber for whole development. GCE’s specialists abilities in deep works, shaft sinking and tunneling are trusted in the industry to deliver works safely and efficiently which is one of the reasons they were selected for this scheme.
The former dock facility dating back to the 18 century has undergone major regeneration in recent years resulting in one of the most sort after locations for technology, leisure and residential in Northern England.
